Sardar Swaran
Singh National Institute of Renewable Energy (SSS-NIRE), Kapurthala (Punjab) is
an autonomous Institution of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy,
Government of India. The objective of the Institute is to carry out and
facilitate research, design, development, testing, standardization and
technology demonstration eventually leading to commercialization of R&D
output.
SSS-NIRE has three R&D Laboratories. Ecosense established Solar PV and Wind
Energy Lab at SSS-NIRE’s R&D Lab-III.
Ecosense installed the following equipments:
1. Solar PV Grid Tied Training System
2. Wind Energy Training System
Solar PV Grid Tied Training System is a compact version of an actual Solar PV Grid Tied power plant. The system enables user to study wiring and interconnections of different components involved in the system to develop basic understanding of working and operation of a Grid connected system. A user can understand underlying principles power electronics, its applications in power system and challenges like harmonics and grid synchronization by doing various experiments. The system also provides scope for further research.
Solar PV Grid Connected Training system enables user to learn about Solar Grid -tied technology. Using this system, a user gains knowledge of connecting an auxiliary grid (Solar PV) to the main grid, its essential components and transfer of power between the two grids. Using this system user gains knowledge in the following areas:
1) Effect
of different types of loads on Electrical Grid
2) Effect
of capacitance and inductance in Transmission lines
3)
Interfacing requirement of an auxiliary Grid to main grid
4) Concept
of anti-islanding
·
Impact of transmission line inductance on voltage quality
at PCC
·
Power factor improvement using capacitor bank and its
impact on power quality at PCC
·
Grid Synchronization of Solar PV Inverter and its
performance analysis
·
Evaluation of Active, Reactive and apparent power flow
between PV Grid and Virtual Grid
·
Net Metering
·
Anti-islanding protection
·
Built-in MPPT grid tied inverter
·
Three ways connect/ disconnect for PV panels
·
IP 65 protected PV Panels
·
Can work with actual grid as well as virtual grid
· If connected with actual grid, system can run continuously as an additional renewable energy source to the lab
·
Ecosense’s Wind Energy
Training System enables students to learn about Wind Turbine technologies in
easy and interactive manner. A user can study and understand about the
following principles of Wind Energy Generation technology
·
Evaluation of efficiency
of charge controller
·
Evaluation of the cut-in
speed of wind turbine experimentally
·
Evaluation of Tip Speed
ratio (TSR) at different wind speeds
·
Evaluation of coefficient
of performance of wind turbine
·
Draw the turbine Power
versus wind speed curve
·
Draw the curve between
TSR and coefficient of power
·
Draw the power curve of
turbine with respect to the rotational speed of rotor at fix wind speeds
·
Demonstrate the power
analysis at turbine output
·
Demonstrate the power
analysis at different branches of wind turbine energy system with AC load only
· Demonstrate the power analysis at different branches of wind turbine energy system with DC load only
Ecosense also conducted a
demonstration of equipments for training Professors and Scholars. This training
program was focused on educating and training the professors, scholars and
technicians in Wind Energy and Solar PV Technology who will further train
thousands of students and professionals to start their career or business in
this very field.
