Shiv Nadar
University is a comprehensive, multidisciplinary, research-focused, and
student-centric University offering a full range of academic programs at the
undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral level. The University’s goal is
to become internationally recognized for the quality of its research and
creative endeavors and their applicability to improving quality of life,
generating new insights and expanding the boundaries of human knowledge
creativity. Committed to excellence in teaching, research and service, the University
aims to serve the higher education needs of India and the world beyond.
Department of
Mechanical Engineering, SNU recently ordered two equipments of Solar Thermal
Lab from Ecosense
· Solar
Thermal Training System
· ETC
Characterization system for thermal analysis of Fluids.
Ecosense’s Solar Thermal Training system is a replica of the solar flat plate
collector-based water heating system designed in a form of experimental setup
to help students learn and experience different parameters of performance of
Flat Plate Collector System. This system helps students in practical
understanding of various technical parameters such as Overall Heat Loss
Co-efficient, Heat Removal Factor and Efficiency at different flexible input
parameters like radiation, wind speed etc. The system has in built sensors
which measure parameters like pressure, temperature, flow rate etc., mounted on
a control unit.
Technical Advantage of Solar Thermal Training system:
Solar Thermal
Training system has a modular and scalable design. It has 2 auxiliary tanks for
non-stop experimentation. The system utilises artificial source of irradiation,
therefore it does not depend on natural climatic conditions and can be use
inside a closed space.
An ETC characterization system for thermal analysis of fluids is a mini closed loop ETC system to study the thermal characteristics of various fluids. It uses an artificial sunlight so that it can be used inside a lab and is independent of natural climate. A chiller is also connected to the system so that once fluids get heated, students will be able to cool it down immediately and study thermal characteristics of heating as well as cooling. This system helps students in practical understanding of various technical parameters such as efficiency and heat transfer at different flexible input parameters like radiation, wind speed etc. The system has in built sensors which measure parameters like pressure, temperature, flow rate etc., mounted on a control unit. The equipment has the following features:
• Artificial source of irradiation.
• Control of irradiation level as per
requirement
• Artificial Source of Wind speed with provision
to set wind speed as per requirement
• Inbuilt facility analogous to rooftop and hot
water tank compatible to perform experiment both outdoor and indoor
environment.
• Water heater available with storge tank for
pre heating of water
• Chiller tank available to quickly cool hot
water
• Evaluate system efficiency and heat transfer
• An active measurement panel to measure inlet
temperature, pressure etc.
• Inbuilt facility analogous to rooftop and hot
water tank compatible to perform experiment both outdoor and indoor
environment.
• Artificial Source of Wind speed with provision
to set wind speed as per requirement.
After successful installation of systems,
2-day master’s training program is conducted. This master’s training was
focused on how to efficiently utilize the system in core-curriculum development
and practical experimentations.
